Unique project in soft fruit sector
On June 15, SERCOM took part in the National Small and Stone Fruit Day (Landelijke Klein- en Steenfruitdag, red.) in Buren (Gelderland). This time the edition of this open day was held at Berry Brothers. At the location in Zoelmond, SERCOM supplied an advanced irrigation system, which uses wireless connections between the central process computer and the various field stations and greenhouse departments. All this was realised in close collaboration with our partner VGB Watertechniek from Bunnik.
Shuttle buses were available that day, running hourly between the two locations. This enabled interested parties to get acquainted with the new construction and expansion at this location. Berry Brothers are major growers of soft fruits, such as redcurrants, blackberries and blueberries. VGB Watertechniek has delivered an impressive irrigation system. The Sercom computer controls this system extremely accurately. They also use scales at this location. They use them to be able to mix and add the correct amount of water automatically. The fact that all this is done wirelessly — over great distances — makes this project unique in The Netherlands.
